Terms
Nothing published on this site is legal, financial, investment or professional advice.
No advice
The AI Law and Policy Index is a reading of public instruments at a stated review date. It does not account for individual circumstances, it is not a compliance product, and qualified practitioners may code entries differently. Obtain advice from a practitioner qualified in the relevant jurisdiction before relying on it.
Governance readiness scores record the machinery a jurisdiction has. They are not an assessment of the quality of its rules or of their enforcement.
No warranty
The site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Figures are reproduced from third-party datasets that carry their own errors, revisions and limitations, and processing here may introduce further errors. Each figure carries its source, licence and retrieval date so that it can be verified against the original.
To the extent the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or equivalent legislation that cannot be excluded.
Material published under our licence
The site's code, its written explanations and the eight datasets compiled here are licensed MIT. Reuse, modification and commercial use are permitted, subject to retention of the copyright notice.
The eight datasets are the AI Datacentre Index, the AI Governance Readiness Index, the AI Law and Policy Index, the AI Usage Disclosure Index, the Compute Threshold Index, the Environmental Disclosure Index, the Frontier Safety Framework Index and the Release Safety Disclosure Index. Each is compiled from primary documents. The attribution string for each appears on the sources page and in the marker attached to every figure drawn from it.
Material published under third-party licences
Most figures on this site are reproduced from third-party datasets under their own licences and remain the property of their publishers. Those licences are not extended by these terms. Check the licence on the sources page, or in the marker attached to the figure, before reuse.
Two conditions are noted here. The AI Incident Database is licensed ODbL, which imposes share-alike conditions on derived databases. News headlines and extracts remain the property of their publishers; this site displays a headline, an extract of at most 200 characters and a link to the original.
Linking and attribution
Linking is permitted. Figures may be quoted with attribution. The site and its data must not be presented as endorsed by any cited publisher. No cited publisher endorses this site, and several of the licences relied on state this expressly.
Embedded figures
The images under /embed/ may be placed on other pages and in other documents. The HTML for each is under the figure on its page and on the embeddable figures page. Each image prints its title, its sources and their licences, its date and the address of the figure it reproduces. That text is the attribution the licences of its sources require, Epoch AI's CC BY 4.0 among them, and is not to be removed, cropped or covered. An altered image must not be presented as published here.
An image placed from its published address is rebuilt with the data and shows the current figure. A copy shows the figure as of the date printed in it.
Corrections and takedowns
Errors may be reported through the corrections page. Rights holders who wish material removed may request removal by the same route. Source data is held in a single registry, and removing a source removes everything derived from it.
Changes
These terms may change. Changes are published here and the date above is updated. Changes affecting permitted use of the material are also listed on the corrections page.
